Question: Why is Christianity different from any other religion? What makes it so special?
Answer: The answer to why Christianity stands so far apart from other world religions, or, what makes it so special can be answered in one simple word that most young children in Sunday school would know: Jesus.
But how is it that Jesus makes all the difference? No other religion points to a savior through whom we can receive eternal life by trusting in His completed work and not relying on our continued effort. Our absolute reliance in Christ and His death and resurrection is all that God requires of one to become a Christian. No other faith-system or religion in the world can make such a simple claim.
Jesus put it clearly in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The condition by which we go through Him is clearly laid out by Paul in Ephesians 2:8–9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Every other religion that attempts to make sense of existence, and provide a way to heaven or eternal life, has at the core of its belief system a set of actions—works. Whether rules, regulations, steps, or dos and don’ts, there is none that has so pure and simple a directive for salvation as Christianity: trust in Christ alone!
