Turning a conversation to spiritual things and transitioning into a simple presentation of the gospel is easier when you LISTEN and LEAD.

Listen for a “springboard” to talking about spiritual topics.

Here are two examples:

  1. Listen: “I wonder what’s going to happen… I never expected this.”

This sentence can springboard into God’s love and His desire to help them.

Lead: You might say, “My experience is that God always wants our best. What do you think God would want to tell you right now?”

You’ve moved to a spiritual topic. You may have a chance to share the gospel using John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish (die), but have eternal life.”
  2. Listen: “Children are sweet, but they drive me crazy! Do you ever get any peace?”

Every parent of young children has heard or uttered something like this!

Lead: You might name a peaceful Christian song you like, or share a favorite Scripture passage like John 14:27–28, which speaks of peace, brought to us by the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives. You can discuss God’s love, His Son who died for us, the way to salvation by trusting in Jesus alone, the peace of a life on earth with the help of the Holy Spirit, and the hope of Heaven.

Listen and lead. The Holy Spirit will help you joyfully, simply, and lovingly share the greatest news of all with your friends.
