When people talk about the political chaos the nation is experiencing this election year, we have a unique opportunity to present the gospel.

A segue into that conversation can be as simple as saying, “Things are in such a mess that I think only God is going to be able to straighten it out.”

Others often respond with a laugh, “I think I’d agree.”

I then say, “I really mean it, though. I’m a firm believer that there is a God, He’s in control, and He is the only one that’s going to bring peace on this earth one day.”

I then talk about how I have grown in my own understanding of who God is and eventually get to the question, “Are you interested in spiritual things at all?”

I normally get the response that they have some degree of interest, even though it may not be a lot.

I can then ask, “Has anyone ever taken a Bible and shown you how you can know for sure you are going to heaven?” What an opportunity to go through our Bad News/Good News presentation of the gospel!

That has worked so well that one time a man said to me, “I think it’s also time that God and I got back together again.”

Today’s political world is certainly disappointing, but I challenge you to use it as an opportunity for the good news of the gospel.
