Called to Comfort – Sharing Jesus with a Hurting World
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
— 2 Corinthians 1:3–4
Affliction is a universal human experience, and Christians are not exempt from it. Yet the apostle Paul highlights two powerful truths that distinguish the way believers experience suffering.
First, God is with us in our pain. He does not leave us to navigate hardship alone. Instead, He draws near, bringing comfort, peace, and assurance as we turn to Him.
Second, our pain is not wasted. God uses our experiences—especially our suffering—to equip us to comfort others. We become channels of His mercy, offering hope, encouragement, and healing to those who are hurting.
Sharing God’s comfort shouldn’t be an occasional gesture; it’s a calling. As recipients of God’s grace, we are invited to extend it to others in tangible ways. Here are a few ways we can share the comfort God has given us:
How to Share God’s Comfort
1. Be Aware
In a world filled with distractions and personal burdens, it’s easy to overlook the needs of those around us. Ask God to open your eyes and soften your heart to recognize when someone is struggling. A timely word, a gentle smile, or a simple check-in can make a profound difference.
2. Be Present
Your full attention is one of the greatest gifts you can offer. You don’t need to have all the answers—just be there. A listening ear, an empathetic heart, and a nonjudgmental presence can create space for healing to begin.
3. Be Transparent
We often hide our scars, yet it’s through our vulnerability that others find strength. When we share our struggles, we offer solidarity. When we share how God met us in those struggles, we offer hope.
4. Be Evangelistic
Ultimately, the greatest comfort we can offer others is to introduce them to the source of all comfort—Jesus Christ. Through conversation, testimony, and living a life of grace and compassion, we can point others to the One who promises peace beyond understanding and joy that transcends each circumstance.
In a world of pain, God calls us to be vessels of His comfort. In doing so, you will bring the light of Christ to someone else’s darkness.
