Missionary Work: Practical Advice to Get Involved in God’s Mission

by May 16, 2025Christian Living, Encouragement, Missions

Missionary work is a topic that generates diverse opinions and approaches, and it is also a reality that today faces challenges and changes, but what is missionary work? What is the mission? The best place to find answers to these questions is undoubtedly in the Word of God.

We understand missionary work as the fundamental task within Christianity that involves taking the gospel to people of different cultures, ethnicities, and beliefs in every corner of the world, as the theological basis of this is the very character of God. God Himself is the origin of His mission by developing His plan of universal redemption, which we can find in Scripture from Genesis promising Abraham that all nations will be blessed in Him (Gen. 12:3), to Revelation where we are shown a multitude of all nations worshiping before the throne of God (Rev. 7:9). We can also appreciate it in passages of the New Testament like Mark 16:15Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” and in Matthew 28:18-20Go and make disciples of all nations…” and many others.

We can conclude that God’s mission rests in that all people of all ethnicities, cultures and races worship God, and for that God has established a means for that to be fulfilled, “The Gospel and His Church”; that is why I share with you essential aspects through which you can become actively involved in the mission of God.

  1. Begin to pray intentionally. At EvanTell we understand that prayer in evangelism is vital to fulfill the mission of God. Pray for Labors, Opportunities, Boldness, Success, Security and Salvation (LOBSSS) and you will begin to experience how the Lord begins to use you wonderfully in the fulfillment of His mission.

  2. Be part of a local church and get involved in the efforts that your church has to reach the lost, and if there is not one, maybe God is stirring you up so you can start one. Remember this and please don’t forget, when Jesus walked through this world, people who saw Him could see God (Jn.1:18; Col.1:15). Today in our days when people see the Church (the body of Christ comp. Rom.12:4; 1 Cor. 12:27; Ephesians, Col. 1:18,24) they can see God. It is the local church that is the manifestation to the world that God continues to work through His people.

  3. Remember that if you have put your trust in Christ as your Savior, you have been commissioned by Jesus Himself (Matthew 28:18) as a missionary from the place where you are, your job, your school, your home, your neighborhood, etc. You should know that the Holy Spirit dwells in you (Ephesians 1:13), and the same power that raised Christ from the dead can use you to be an important part of God’s mission by sharing the gospel and making disciples.

  1. Don’t set expectations too high regarding your abilities or knowledge to be involved in God’s mission. As Dr. Larry Moyer says, “You don’t have to be a brilliant person with a clever mind, but a broken person with a clear message”. God can use you if you are willing to obey Him, remember that God’s mission starts from the place where you are.
